music and football, the recurring theme
just got back from seeing RHCP at Hyde Park. they were good, and both myself and my main man T:B:B: can die happy now that we have seen a living legend: support was provided by JAMES BROWN of all people. travel was a nightmare though, the trains were completely buggered. the band themselves WERE good, and can really play. but Oasis put on a better show. i would like to see Foo Fighters some time when they come to london if they ever do. i've got one of their live DVDs and they're good. don't get me wrong, people, i don't regret going this evening - they are a great band, and i'd recommend anyone interested to go see them.

last night. well, thursday night as it is now 2:30am saturday. england vs portugal, euro 2004 quarter final. england were robbed: they were 1-0 up in 3mins, Helder Postiga equilised for portugal in the 83rd, then in the final minute sol campbell scored the winner. i still believe it was the winning goal, but for reasons known only to himself, an experienced referee with 50+ champions league matches and shitloads of internationals that he's been in charge of, decided to disallow the goal. england went on to lose on penalties as they always do. you may be able to guess from this that i don't blame sven-goran eriksson's tactics, i don't blame england's questionable performance, and i don't blame the players who missed their penalties (although i think that mr. beckham should stop taking them for a bit, thats 3 he's missed in a row). because the tactics and the performance, while not breathtaking and flawless, were good enough to win the match, because we DID win the match. it was that fucking ref. may i also give a special re-mention to the aforementioned Sol Campbell. sol, i think you're scum after what you did to us Tottenham supporters a few years back, but you have shown just how good you are this tournament. the man hasn't put a foot wrong in 4 games of international football against quality opposition. now that England are out of the competition, and my grandfather's countrymen of Italy have ballsed up and went out in the group stage, i am throwing my support behind Holland because i've got them as runners up on my work sweepstake form. may i also say that the czech republic have been quite good as well so far. and speaking of Italy, the italians who complained about being out of the competition because of a scandinavian stitch up, to you i have this to say:

if you'd won your other group matches, you wouldn't've been in that situation

tomorrow morning (well, this morning if you're pedantic) i have no plans. and that's a good thing.
