work
yesterday was strange at work. had to go to a nearby town called Ware (no, really. yes, i DO know all the jokes but they get a bit old. worse than that is a local village known for its womens' institute. the village is called Ugley.) to take an engineer some equipment - fancy going on aan installation but leaving the computer behind. anyhoo, i went past another town where i had a job interview in september and it reminded me of it. obviously i didnt get the job, but i got a bit depressed at my failure because it was self-inflicted: a lack of enthusiasm. being asked if i'd be interested if i was offered the job and replying "yes, i'd be VERY interested" isn't enthusiastic enough. but then afterwards i thought about it, and i didnt want it after all. and the brothers who run the company were, at the time (and probably still now), in the process of completely fucking up my local football club. it was for a company who sell EPOS (electronic point of sale. bar code readers, basically) equipment and software - how boring does that sound? and i'd've been on technical support. who'd want to do tech support, eh?

anyway, i think to what happened afterwards. worked at the dump for a few more months, then got the current job in january much more locally. i love my job, although i have occasional days where i make too many mistakes or i have bad customers that piss me off. it is proper IT work - building pcs, setting them up, networking and all it entails - which is what i did at college. hell, i'm the 2nd choice for technical support when D is off like today, and i keep being told i'm being primed for promotion to field engineer (i sometimes go to customer premises anyway as part of the training). but best of all are the people, there is nobody there that i can't stand the sight of. everyone is really down to earth, even the field engineers who hold the welfare of the company in their hands and the two brothers who own the company. for my birthday, we had a staff night out where i felt popular. sometimes you don't realise that something shit happening to you can actually benefit you. although it didnt benefit me financially, i'd be on 50% more than what i'm now if i'd got the job. but the people i work with are fun and are great.

yesterday, boss unit 2 was telling some of us the secrets to building a successful company.

"I think we've got a really good team at the moment on the technical side of things. X, Y and Z who were here until recently were nice enough people, but they weren't a patch on the team we've got now - the additions of B and Treeson have really improved things and fill me with confidence. and you know what the link is? X, Y and Z were all from Harlow. now, we don't have anyone from Harlow working for the company. ok, for various reasons we need to do a bit of "care in the community" and employ less-fortunate people, but i think with those 3 we took it a bit too far."
certainly made ME feel a bit better about my contribution to the family. although a pay rise wouldn't go amiss. next week i'm in Fookin' Manchester 'avin' it fookin' large for 2 days on business, setting up a network with an experienced engineer. all part of my learning experience.

thats it for this evening. ITS THE WEEKEND WOO.
